2018 Feisty's Kids Music Camp

Feisty Music Camp for Kids 2018

This year’s Walnut Valley Festival will feature a new experience designed specifically for kids. Dubbed the Feisty Music Camp for Kids, the two-day event will give children the chance to take part in hands-on, music-related crafts, workshops and concerts.

  • Who: the camp welcomes kids from pre-school through 6th Grade
  • What: Each session will have a theme or focus, and some sessions may be split to give kids a chance to choose which activity they want to do
  • Where: Stage 6, in West Campground
  • When: Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15, 1-5pm (see session schedule)
  • How:

    1. Pre-register for the session(s) of interest at the information booth. NOTE: Preregistering does not guarantee entry. Space is limited, and walk-ins will be welcomed if there is room.

    2. PLAN ON ARRIVING 10 MINUTES BEFORE SESSION’S START. You will be asked to sign a release and pay $5 for each child participating. The $5 fee gets the child into that session and any subsequent sessions desired. We will be using wristbands, so children can return later (with parent or guardian) for a different session if desired. A wristband does not guarantee admission for a later session, so get there early to secure a space

    3. Parents or guardians are required to remain onsite to observe the excitement first-hand.

Directors

Music Camp Co-Directors Erin Mae Lewis and Peter Thomas Lague will be organizing and operating the camp, and both have a wealth of experience to draw on.

Erin Mae Lewis has brought American music education into public schools, home school co-ops, libraries, churches, foster care programs and summer camps. An accomplished musician, she won the national Mountain Dulcimer Championship at Winfield in 2004. She went on to study classical piano at Sterling College, KS, before pursuing a degree in commercial music, with an emphasis in bluegrass and acoustic jazz, through South Plains College in Texas. After graduation, she began touring full- time as part of the duo Scenic Roots.

Peter Thomas Lague, an artist and educator specializing in murals, ceramics painting and many other media, has partnered creatively with Lewis before while organizing the Americana Music Academy in Lawrence, KS. In Operation Clean Slate, he worked with kids all over California to bring color and positive messages to graffiti-prone areas through the painting of murals. Lague will be taking on a mural project as part of Feisty Music Camp this year.
