The Lone Star State Dulcimer Society hosted the LSSDS Dulcimer Festival at Glen Rose Park in Glen Rose, Texas on Mother’s Day Weekend. The weekend included workshops for both mountain and hammer dulcimers, led by nationally known instructors, and was highlighted by the Texas State Dulcimer Championships.
Cassandra Damper from Houston, Texas won First Place in the Texas State Mountain Dulcimer Championship. Matthew Hathaway from Fort Worth, Texas won Second Place and Hope Arendse from Cleburne, Texas won Third Place.
Colin Beasley of Mobile, Alabama won First Place in the Texas State Hammer Dulcimer Championship. Amy Lyons from Marietta, Texas won Second Place and Sarah Arendse from Cleburne, Texas won Third Place.
Cassandra Damper and Colin Beasley have been invited to represent Texas in the National Mountain Dulcimer Championship and the National Hammer Dulcimer Championship respectively. The National Dulcimer Championships are part of the National Flat Picking Championships hosted each year by the Walnut Valley Festival to be held September 14th through 18th, 2016 in Winfield, Kansas.
