2017 UTAH STATE INSTRUMENT CHAMPIONS ANNOUNCED

The Inter-Mountain Acoustic Music Association (IAMA) and the Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music (OFOAM) joined together to present the 10th Annual Ogden Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Festival. The festival was held June 2nd through June 4th at Fort Buenaventura, Utah.

The festival featured the Utah State Instrument Championships, sponsored by IAMA, with competitions in both open and novice divisions in Mandolin, Fiddle, Banjo and Flat Pick Guitar. The open competitions also featured Finger Style Guitar.

Winners of the 2017 Utah State Instrument Championships Open (open to all competitors) Divisions are:

Utah State Mandolin Championship 1st Place: Hudson Bosworth, Plain City, Utah 2nd Place: Stephen Santora, Salt Lake City, Utah 3rd Place: Christian Hearn, Ogden, Utah

Utah State Old Time Fiddle Championship 1st Place: Bethany McCombe, Salt Lake City, Utah 2nd Place: Meagan Nay, Salt Lake City, Utah 3rd Place: Christine Gundayo, West Valley City, Utah

Utah State Banjo Championship 1st Place: Eric Welty, Argyle, Texas 2nd Place: Gregg Robbins-Welty, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 3rd Place: Hudson Bosworth, Plain City, Utah

Utah State Flat Pick Guitar Championship 1st Place: Kylie Anderson, Salem, Utah 2nd Place: Gregg Robbins-Welty, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 3rd Place: Julian Mitton, Perry, Utah

Utah State Finger Style Guitar Championship 1st Place: Arron Jacques, South Salt Lake City, Utah 2nd Place: Nick Johnson, Pleasant Grove, Utah 3rd Place: Scott Boyd, Centerville, Utah

Winners of the Utah State Championships Open Divisions are invited to represent Utah at the National Mandolin Championship, the Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddle Championship, the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship, the National Flat Pick Guitar Championship and the International Finger Style Guitar Championship, all to be hosted by the Walnut Valley Festival September 13th through 17th, 2017 in Winfield, Kansas.
