2018 Texas State Dulcimer Champions Announced

The Lone Star State Dulcimer Society (LSSDS) hosted the LSSDS Dulcimer Festival at Glen Rose Park in Glen Rose, Texas on Mother’s Day Weekend. The weekend included workshops for both mountain and hammer dulcimers, led by nationally known instructors, and was highlighted by the Texas State Dulcimer Championships.

Len Swanson from Georgetown, Texas won First Place in the Texas State Mountain Dulcimer Championship. Van Gardner from Decatur, Texas won Second Place and Josh Hathaway from Fort Worth, Texas won Third Place.

Cal Sweeten from Overland Park, Kansas won First Place in the Texas State Hammer Dulcimer Championship. Doug Giddings from Fort Worth, Texas won Second Place and Colin Beasley form Mobile, Alabama won Third Place.

Len Swanson and Cal Sweeten have been invited to represent Texas in the National Mountain Dulcimer Championship and the National Hammer Dulcimer Championship respectively. The National Dulcimer Championships are part of the National Flat Picking Championships hosted by the Walnut Valley Festival to be held September 12th through 16th, 2018 in Winfield, Kansas.
