Ozark Folk Center Announces 2017 Southern Regional Dulcimer Champions

The Ozark Folk Center hosted the 40th Annual Dulcimer Jamboree in Mountain View, Arkansas. The Dulcimer Jamboree provided workshops in both mountain and hammer dulcimers at all levels of playing skills. Evening concerts featured workshop instructors along with their regular cast of local and regional bands. The Saturday evening concert featured the contestants of the Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship and the Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship.

Winners of the 2017 Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship are: 1st Place: Jan Carroll, Lawton, Oklahoma; 2nd Place: Jim Munns, Maumelle, Arkansas; 3rd Place: Cindy Rice, Mountain View, Arkansas.

Jan Carroll is the winner of a McSpadden Mountain Dulcimer made by The Dulcimer Shoppe and presented by luthier and shop owner Jim Woods. Jan also received a check from the Ozark Folk Center, a trophy, and a Full-Festival pass to the Walnut Valley Festival and entry into the National Mountain Dulcimer Championship held September 13 – 17, 2017 in Winfield, Kansas.

Winners of the Southern Regional Hammer Dulcimer Championship are: 1st Place: Colin Beasley, Mobile, Alabama; 2nd Place: Ben Haguewood, Mineral Point, Missouri; and 3rd Place: Amy Lyons, Marietta, Texas.

Colin Beasley is the winner of a Master Works, Inc. Hammer Dulcimer presented by luthier, Russell Cook. Colin also received a check from the Ozark Folk Center, a trophy, and a Full-Festival pass to the Walnut Valley Festival and entry into the National Hammer Dulcimer Championship held September 13-17, 2017 in Winfield, Kansas.
