Walnut Valley Festival Land Rush will take place Sunday, Sept. 9, 1:00pm

Officials at Walnut Valley Association have announced that the Land Rush for this year’s Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS, will be held on Sunday, September 9, at 1:00pm.

Festival officials delayed the Land Rush, the traditional Thursday “race” to claim campsites, because of concerns about muddy conditions at the rain-soaked Winfield fairgrounds. There are no indications that the fairgrounds will flood, and an official at El Dorado Lake has said there has been no upstream release of water apart from the normal discharge.

Walnut Valley Festival to Delay Land Rush

Winfield, Kansas September 4, 2018

Officials at Walnut Valley Association have announced that the Land Rush for this year’s Walnut Valley Festival will be delayed till the weekend in order to allow for drying of the campgrounds. Land Rush will NOT be held on Thursday, September 6, as planned. On Thursday at noon, officials will announce whether the Land Rush will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, or Sunday, Sept. 9. The information will be posted on the WVF website, wvfest.com, on the Festival’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, and posted on the mobile app as well.

Ernie Hill returns for his Story Songs Set again in 2018

Have you ever wondered what goes on inside the mind of a storyteller; especially a storytelling songwriter? What sparks the imagination behind these stories? Ernie Hill is a storytelling Songwriter from Arkansas. He has pondered this mystery to the extent that he wrote a book about it and also created a concept “Story Songs” workshop. Story songs is not a hands-on workshop, but rather, a song presentation and panel discussion in which three or more storytelling songwriters, chosen from the line-up, perform an original song and pick each other’s brains about the process.

47th Walnut Valley Festival to Hold First-ever Music Camp for Kids

Winfield, Kansas August 23, 2018

Officials at Walnut Valley Association have announced that this year’s Walnut Valley Festival will feature a new experience designed specifically for kids. Dubbed the Feisty Music Camp for Kids, the two-day event will give children the chance to take part in hands-on, music-related crafts, workshops and concerts.

2018 Indiana State Finger Style Guitar Championship

The Fifth Annual Indiana String Fest and Indiana State Finger Style Guitar Championship were held July 27th through 29st at the Brown County Playhouse in Nashville, Indiana. World renown featured performers and competitors filled the house for a full weekend of internationally acclaimed finger style guitar music and competition.

Fifteen competitors waited patiently for their turn to compete in the competition. The second round of competition consisted of the top five scorers from the first round.


The Inter-Mountain Acoustic Music Association (IAMA) and the Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music (OFOAM) joined together to present the 11th Annual Ogden Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Festival. The festival was held June 1st through June 3rd at Fort Buenaventura, Utah.

The festival featured the Utah State Instrument Championships, sponsored by IAMA, with competitions in both open and novice divisions in Mandolin, Fiddle, Banjo and Flat Pick Guitar. The open competitions also featured Finger Style Guitar.

Texas State Bluegrass Champions Announced

The Texas Bay Area Bluegrass Association in partnership with the Central Texas Bluegrass Association have announced the winners of the 2018 Texas Bluegrass Championships.

The Championships were held in Pearl, Texas in conjunction with their monthly meeting. Each competition has a limit of fifteen competitors. Walnut Valley Festival rules are used for the competition.

Walnut Valley Festival Supports Young Musicians with Performance Opportunities in Acoustic Kids Showcases

For the 28th year running, this September Andy May’s Acoustic Kids Showcases will return to the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield. Acoustic Kids provides a built-in opportunity for musicians aged 16 or younger to perform on the festival’s official stages. Campers and single-day pass-holders can all take part, and each year, a stream of young musicians heads to Stage 2 on Friday and Saturday mornings to play for the best audience in the world.
