Improve your skill at a hands-on class from top Walnut Valley Festival Performers.

The Walnut Valley Festival Hands-On Workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, September 13th at the Winfield First Baptist Church. Class topics include vocal, flat pick, fingerstyle and blues guitar, mountain dulcimer, autoharp, songwriting, mandolin and bass. These classes are open to a limited number of students, with skill levels from beginner to advanced. A free shuttle will pick you and your friends up at festival grounds and return you there after classes. There is a fee to attend but you are not required to have a full festival ticket to attend.

2017 Andy May’s Acoustic Kids Showcases Deadline Extended!

Deadline extended! Good news for those of you who have been meaning to apply for our Walnut Valley Festival Acoustic Kids Showcases- with Andy May but have been busy with summer and haven't quite gotten your application together: We still have plenty of room, and we are extending the deadline until the showcase is full or Wednesday, September 6, whichever comes first.


2017 Indiana State Finger Style Guitar Championship

The Fifth Annual Indiana String Fest and Indiana State Finger Style Guitar Championship were held July 28th through 30st at the Brown County Playhouse in Nashville, Indiana. World renown featured performers and competitors filled the house for a full weekend of internationally acclaimed finger style guitar music and competition.

Fifteen competitors waited patiently for their turn to compete in the competition. The second round of competition consisted of the top five scorers from the first round.

2017 Wyoming State Guitar Champions Announced

Keith Taylor, Magna, Utah took top honors at the Wyoming State Finger Style Guitar Championship while Austin Taylor, Sandy, Utah won the Wyoming State Flat Pick Guitar Championship. Both competitions are sponsored by the Oyster Ridge Music Festival held in Kemmerer, Wyoming held July 28th through 30th.

Jeffry Stock, Salt Lake City, Utah won second place in the Wyoming State Finger Style Guitar Championshiip, and Scott Earl Boyd, Centerville, Utah won third place.

2017 Texas State Dulcimer Champions Announced

The Lone Star State Dulcimer Society hosted the LSSDS Dulcimer Festival at Glen Rose Park in Glen Rose, Texas on Mother’s Day Weekend. The weekend included workshops for both mountain and hammer dulcimers, led by nationally known instructors, and was highlighted by the Texas State Dulcimer Championships.

Matthew Hathaway from Fort Worth, Texas won First Place in the Texas State Mountain Dulcimer Championship. Margaret Wright from Kennard, Texas won Second Place and Van W Gardner from Decatur, Texas won Third Place.


The Inter-Mountain Acoustic Music Association (IAMA) and the Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music (OFOAM) joined together to present the 10th Annual Ogden Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Festival. The festival was held June 2nd through June 4th at Fort Buenaventura, Utah.

The festival featured the Utah State Instrument Championships, sponsored by IAMA, with competitions in both open and novice divisions in Mandolin, Fiddle, Banjo and Flat Pick Guitar. The open competitions also featured Finger Style Guitar.

2017 Mid-East Regional Dulcimer Champions Announced

Coshocton Dulcimer Days Festival celebrated three days of workshops, concerts and competitions June 16th -- 18th at Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio.

The Mid-East Regional Dulcimer Championships were featured during the Sunday concert.

Winners of the Mid-East Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship are: 1st Place: Sarah Lockard, Oberlin, Ohio 2nd Place: Tish Wesman, Beckley West Virginia 3rd Place: J.D. LaBash, Austintown, Ohio

Arkansas State Finger Style Guitar Champion Announced

Thumb Picking workshops, a Traditional Thumb Picking Guitar Contest and the 3rd Annual Arkansas State Finger Style Guitar Championship filled the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas with guitar players of all talent levels May 19th and 20th, 2017.

Ozark Folk Center Announces 2017 Southern Regional Dulcimer Champions

The Ozark Folk Center hosted the 40th Annual Dulcimer Jamboree in Mountain View, Arkansas. The Dulcimer Jamboree provided workshops in both mountain and hammer dulcimers at all levels of playing skills. Evening concerts featured workshop instructors along with their regular cast of local and regional bands. The Saturday evening concert featured the contestants of the Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship and the Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship.
