2015 National Mandolin Champions Named

44th Annual Walnut Valley Festival – Winfield, Kansas

Held annually each year on the 3rd weekend in September, the Walnut Valley Festival is the home of the International Autoharp Championship, the International Fingerstyle Guitar, the National Mountain Dulcimer, the National Flat Pick Guitar Championship, the National Hammered Dulcimer Championship and the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship. Other contests held at the Walnut Valley Festival are the National Mandolin Championship and the Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddle.

Walnut Valley Takes Stance on Drones at the Festival

The Walnut Valley Association has put in place a new rule prohibiting the operation and use of remote control Drones on the grounds of the Walnut Valley Festival effective immediately.

This is due to numerous reasons including the following:

  1. To protect the privacy and safety of those attending the festival.

  2. Contractual agreements prohibiting the video recording of paid performers during the festival.

  3. Possible noise interference of the music being played for the enjoyment of festival attendees.

2015 Walnut Valley NewSong winners announced

Kelly Mulhollan and Donna Stjerna (Still on the Hill) and the Walnut Valley Association are proud to announce the selections for the 2015 NewSong showcases at the 2015 Walnut Valley Festival!

Kelly & Donna coordinate a massive undertaking each year, getting a large number of great songs in front of judges. All entries get valuable feedback. Winners (or alternates) in each of ten categories perform in showcases on Stage 2 on Thursday and Saturday morning at the Festival.

2015 Canadian National Finger Style Guitar Champion Announced in Kingston, Ontario Canada

The Canadian Guitar Festival hosted the Canadian National Finger Style Guitar Championship on this past July 24th, 25th & 26th at Loughborough Lake Holiday Park in Kingston, Ontario with some of the greatest guitar players competing for the top prizes.

2015 Indiana State Finger Style Guitar Championship

The Third Annual Indiana String Fest and Indiana State Finger Style Guitar Championship was held July 31st through August 2nd at the Brown County Playhouse in Nashville, Indiana. World renown featured performers and competitors filled the house for a full weekend of internationally acclaimed finger style guitar music and competition.

Twenty-eight competitors waited patiently for their turn to compete in the competition. The second round of competition consisted of the top five scorers from the first round.

2015 Wyoming State Guitar Champions Announced

Keith Taylor, Salt Lake City, Utah took top honors at the Wyoming State Finger Style Guitar Championship while Adam Kozlewski, Ogden, Utah won the Wyoming State Flat Pick Guitar Championship. Both competitions are sponsored by the Oyster Ridge Music Festival held in Kemmerer, Wyoming held July 24th through 26th.

Guy Benson, Salt Lake City, Utah won second place in the Wyoming State Finger Style Guitar Championship, while Brad Tew, Springville, Utah won third place.

2015 Mid-East Regional Dulcimer Champions Announced

Coshocton Dulcimer Days Festival celebrated three days of workshops, concerts and competitions June 19th through 21th at Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio.

 

The Mid-East Regional Dulcimer Championships were featured during the Sunday concert.

 

Winners of the Mid-East Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship are:

            1st Place:        Michael Vickey, North East, PA

            2nd Place:       Tish Westman, Beckley, WV

            3rd Place:       J.D. LaBash, Austintown, OH
