2018 Indiana State Finger Style Guitar Championship

The Fifth Annual Indiana String Fest and Indiana State Finger Style Guitar Championship were held July 27th through 29st at the Brown County Playhouse in Nashville, Indiana. World renown featured performers and competitors filled the house for a full weekend of internationally acclaimed finger style guitar music and competition.

Fifteen competitors waited patiently for their turn to compete in the competition. The second round of competition consisted of the top five scorers from the first round.

2018 UTAH STATE INSTRUMENT CHAMPIONS ANNOUNCED

The Inter-Mountain Acoustic Music Association (IAMA) and the Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music (OFOAM) joined together to present the 11th Annual Ogden Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Festival. The festival was held June 1st through June 3rd at Fort Buenaventura, Utah.

The festival featured the Utah State Instrument Championships, sponsored by IAMA, with competitions in both open and novice divisions in Mandolin, Fiddle, Banjo and Flat Pick Guitar. The open competitions also featured Finger Style Guitar.

Texas State Bluegrass Champions Announced

The Texas Bay Area Bluegrass Association in partnership with the Central Texas Bluegrass Association have announced the winners of the 2018 Texas Bluegrass Championships.

The Championships were held in Pearl, Texas in conjunction with their monthly meeting. Each competition has a limit of fifteen competitors. Walnut Valley Festival rules are used for the competition.

Walnut Valley Festival Supports Young Musicians with Performance Opportunities in Acoustic Kids Showcases

For the 28th year running, this September Andy May’s Acoustic Kids Showcases will return to the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield. Acoustic Kids provides a built-in opportunity for musicians aged 16 or younger to perform on the festival’s official stages. Campers and single-day pass-holders can all take part, and each year, a stream of young musicians heads to Stage 2 on Friday and Saturday mornings to play for the best audience in the world.

There is a mistake in the dates listed for Early Line Up in the July Occasional. Page 4 of the Occasional states that Early Line Up will be from August 15 to August 22.
The correct dates for EARLY LINE UP this year are from August 14 to August 22. We apologize for the typo and any resulting confusion. 2018 Mid-East Regional Dulcimer Champions Announced

Coshocton Dulcimer Days Festival celebrated three days of workshops, concerts and competitions June 15th - 17th at Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio.

The Mid-East Regional Dulcimer Championships were featured during the Sunday concert.

Winners of the Mid-East Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship are: 1st Place: Tish Wesman, Beckley West Virginia 2nd Place: J.D. LaBash, Austintown, Ohio 3rd Place: Linda Sigismondi, Gallipous, Ohio

47th Walnut Valley Festival Poster to feature old 14th Street Bridge

Winfield, Kansas June 25, 2018

Officials at Walnut Valley Association have announced that the poster for this year’s Walnut Valley Festival will feature a landmark familiar to Winfield’s citizens, albeit one that is no longer in existence. The old West 14th Street bridge, which this year was demolished to make way for a new bridge spanning the Walnut River, is the focal point of the poster for the 47th Walnut Valley Festival.

2018 Texas State Dulcimer Champions Announced

The Lone Star State Dulcimer Society (LSSDS) hosted the LSSDS Dulcimer Festival at Glen Rose Park in Glen Rose, Texas on Mother’s Day Weekend. The weekend included workshops for both mountain and hammer dulcimers, led by nationally known instructors, and was highlighted by the Texas State Dulcimer Championships.

Len Swanson from Georgetown, Texas won First Place in the Texas State Mountain Dulcimer Championship. Van Gardner from Decatur, Texas won Second Place and Josh Hathaway from Fort Worth, Texas won Third Place.

Ozark Folk Center Announces 2018 Southern Regional Dulcimer Champions

The Ozark Folk Center hosted the 41st Annual Dulcimer Jamboree in Mountain View, Arkansas. The Dulcimer Jamboree provided workshops in both mountain and hammer dulcimers at all levels of playing skills. Evening concerts featured workshop instructors along with their regular cast of local and regional bands. The Saturday evening concert featured the contestants of the Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship and the Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship.
